The Secret to Leading Your Industry (It's Not What You Think) 🧠

The Truth About Industry Leaders

Want to know what separates the best in the industry from everyone else?

It's not their skills, it's not even their years of experience.

After a decade in construction, I've noticed one thing they all do differently:

The best builders and tradesmen never stop learning and growing. They’re always improving. Here's how they do it:

The Secret To Leveling Up

Look at any successful builder and you'll see:

  • Regular up-skilling
  • A strong professional image
  • Consistent, quality marketing and content creation

This isn't by accident. It’s how you level up.

Invest in professional development

Start with industry memberships. HIA and MBA run courses ranging from 3 hours to 5 days. You'll:

  • Learn current best practices
  • Stay up to date with standards
  • Network with industry leaders
  • Build credibility with clients

Pro Tip: Share your certificates on social media. Show clients you're investing in being the best.

Level up your brand game

Brand recognition and professional presentation are massive. It’s often the deciding factor in a client’s choice of builder or tradesman.

So how do you level up your brand?

  • Job site signage at EVERY project. No point having ten jobs on the go unless each and every one of them is plastered in your signage!
  • Quality uniforms for your whole team, including contractors and suppliers (my favourite is the Hard Yakka hoodie!)
  • Branded vehicles that turn heads
  • A high-quality logo and website.

Pro Tip: Hire good graphic/web designers, not cheap ones (DM me for referrals).

Content Is King

Check out the big players in your area. They’re most likely killing their content.

  • Professional project photography
  • Site progress videos
  • Team and process content
  • Before and after shots

Invite a videographer on site for a day. Budget $2-3K for this. It's worth every cent.

What’s the key to making it all work? It’s About Continuous Improvement

Real growth isn't about quick fixes. It's about:

  • Regular content creation
  • Ongoing professional development
  • Maintaining high standards over time

Give it 12 months of consistent effort. The results will follow.
